October 15, 2003 marks the release of Desert Diaries: Photojournalists on the War in Iraq, a compilation of some of the best photography that emerged from the recent Middle East conflict. Attached for your review is a press release detailing this important new title. Desert Diaries is a unique book that reveals the human consequences of the recent war. It features the work of twenty-four international photographers including Pulitzer Prize winner David Turnley, and incorporates the photojournalists1 intimate diary records and notes from the field. Spanning from the UN inspections to the first night of bombing, from the ground operation to the ensuing reconstruction, the book chronicles the tumultuous events in Iraq from early January through June 4th. Combined with the photographs, the diaries allow for a personal and human element to emerge from this unsettling conflict. It is a book of pictures and words like no other dealing with this important subject, the aftermath of which is still unfolding. The book will premiere in September at the Visa Pour L’Image festival in Perpignan, France. All text will appear in both English and French.
